Draft Strategy Presented to Board of Health Today

Did you know that about 38,000 people (15% of residents) are severely cost-burdened by their housing (spending 50% or more of their income for shelter) or are homeless in Thurston County?

The Housing Action Team met during the latter part of 2013 to develop strategies to ensure housing adequacy and quality for our community.  Housing stability is key to reducing many health risks, including chronic stress, depression, untreated mental health, poor nutrition and self-care, and respiratory illness. The Housing Action Team's comprehensive approach to addressing the housing needs of our community, especially for those who are homeless and cost-burdened, involves a collaborative effort of the public, private and non-profit sectors. The team presented its recommendations to the Board of Health and Thurston Thrives Advisory Council on December 10, 2013.
